Under the direct administration of the State Ministry of Education, Ocean University of China is a comprehensive university with its strength in oceanography and fisheries science. OUC offers courses in Science, Engineering, Agronomy (Fisheries), Economics, Liberal Arts, Pharmaceutics, Management, Law, and Education.

Currently OUC has three campuses including Yushan campus, Fushan campus and Laoshan campus. There are over 22 colleges and departments with 71 undergraduate programs. OUC is one of the first universities approved to confer PhD degrees, Master's degrees and Bachelor's degrees by the State Academic Degree Committee. At present, OUC boasts five national key disciplines, six disciplines entitled to confer Doctoral degrees, seven post-doctoral mobile stations and 44 programs for Ph.D. degrees, 17 disciplines conferring Master's degrees, 131 programs for Master's degrees.

OUC also has 13 areas of specialized engineering entitled to confer master's degrees, and two programs in Agriculture Promotion entitled to confer master's degrees including specialized programs such as MBA and MPA. There is one National Research Center for Marine Pharmaceutical Engineering Technology and one Chinese Center of Marine Biotechnology under UNESCO at Ocean University of China. Six disciplines have posts for professorship in the Cheung Kong Scholars Program.

In addition, OUC has two centers for fundamental research and teachers training in Oceanography, Marine Chemistry and one training base for professionals in life science & technology.

With over 70 laboratories for teaching and experiments with distinctive features in marine sciences, OUC boasts advanced teaching conditions and complete facilities. The University owns the "Dong Fang Hong 2", a research vessel with a displacement of 3,500 tons. This vessel is used for both teaching and scientific research. The University Library has established a foreign language database for oceanography and fishery science, which is quite comprehensive and complete compared with other databases of its kind in the world. It is now the National Center for Marine Science Literature Information Retrieval.

Qingdao University is a new comprehensive university in Shandong Province, which is made up of the former Qingdao University, Shandong Textile Engineering Institute, Qingdao Medical College and Qingdao Teachers' College.

QU comprises of 25 colleges, 73 specialties with undergraduate programs covering literature, history, philosophy, law, economics, management, natural sciences, engineering, medical science, education, etc. There are 25 provincial key disciplines, laboratories, and engineering research centers, and 66 specialties with doctor and master programs.

QDU has 2,000 teachers, including one member of Chinese Academy of Science, two members of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and another 7 external academicians, 281 full professors, 868 associate professors. International exchange programs have been established with more than 40 universities and regions, including the USA, Britain, Germany, Japan, Russia, Canada, Australia, etc.

Founded in September, 1950, Qingdao University of Science and Technology was formerly known as Qingdao Institute of Chemical Technology. QUST has a staff of more than 2000, with 675 of them holding professorship, and 23,443 students, 1025 of them are postgraduates or PhD students.

QUST has 7 PhD majors, 49 Master's degree majors, and 56 Bachelor's degree majors. Its feature majors include Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Applied Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Information and Controlling Engineering.

QUST always takes teaching as its core, and has educated more than 70,000 high-level professional talents for the society. In the past decade, QUST has won 13 State Technical Invention Prizes and State Science and Technology Progress Prizes.

QUST develops rapidly in co-operation and exchange with foreign institutions. It has already established Sister University relationship with 24 universities of Russia, Germany, Korea, Canada, Australia, Japan, France, and USA. And it starts 10 joint-education programs with universities of Germany, Korea, France, USA, Estonia and Canada. The Sino-Germany Technical College co-established by Paderborn University (Germany) and QUST is considered as a model in both China and Germany.

Every year there are about 150 long-term foreign students and over 300 short-term ones studying in QUST. They are mainly from Korea, USA, Russia, Vietnam, Germany, Japan, Pakistan, etc. Every year, QUST employs about 30 foreign experts and teachers to teach English, German, Japanese, Russian, Korean, and academic courses. And it also sends teachers and students abroad teaching and studying in foreign universities.

Qingdao Agricultural University

Founded in 1951, Qingdao Agricultural University is a provincial university of Shandong Province of China. It was formerly known as Laiyang Agricultural College and among the first group of universities credited with rights to award bachelor degrees approved by Ministry of Education of China. QAU boasts its emphasis on agricultural science as her advantage and distinctive feature, and on the harmonious development of diverse branches including agriculture, sciences, engineering, economics, arts and management. At present, QAU has 21 colleges and one physical education department, offering 53 undergraduate programs and 31 master degree programs.

QAU now consists of two campuses: One is in Qingdao and the other is in Laiyang, with a total area of 222 hectares. The university has set up many perfect teaching practice bases both inside and outside the campuses. The present university has more than 1800 faculty and staff, including 124 professors and 261 associate professors, and most of them have either doctor's or master degrees.

QAU has established 5 provincial key disciplines such as Animal Genetics Breeding and Reproduction, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Pomology, etc. In addition, the university has also 4 provincial key labs such as Lab of Preventive Veterinary Medicine, Lab of Dryland Cultivation Technology, and one Research Center of Shandong Agricultural Bionics Applied Technology, and 22 research centers.

In 1999, the patent of Yinguo, an artificial simulated germicide, was transferred at the price of 5 million yuan. The technology of extracting polysaccharide from the fermented liquid of Maitake(also Polyporus Frondosus in Latin) was transferred at the price of 9 million yuan in 2002. In 2004, the producing and managerial right of a new variety of corn--LN3 outside Shandong Province was transferred at the price of 1 million yuan.

QAU pays great attention to international collaborations and exchanges. It has established relationships with 42 foreign universities and institutes in 17 countries of the world, including the United States, Canada, South Korea and Germany. In recent years, research co-operation with developed countries and personnel training for developing countries have become two important features of the university. All these activities have undoubtedly stimulated the vigorous development of internationalized education and research in the university.
