Phoenix Island to construct tourism destination

Hundreds of tourism development projects will start in the next five to ten years on Phoenix Island of Qingdao City, according to the Tourism Bureau of Huangdao District. With gross investments totaling at 63.5 billion yuan (US$ 10.17 billion), Phoenix Island will develop industries featuring cultural innovation, exhibitions, sports entertainment, health care, leisure fishing and marine research in order to create a comprehensive holiday resort.

The number of starred hotel construction projects in the area totals at some 20 with an investment value of 16 billion yuan, according to Song Jun, director of the Tourism Bureau of Huangdao District. He added that those projects will be under intensive construction in the next two to three years.

A series of cultural projects, including a Film, Video and Performing Arts Center, an IMAX cinema, an ocean themed film park and a museum, will be launched in the development area, according to Song Jun. He added that the Tangdao Gulf Park and convenient transportation facilities will be constructed as to enable both tourists and local citizens to enjoy the beautiful sceneries.
