504ha tidal flats of Jiaonan turned into eco-industrial base
Tidal flats of Dachang Town, Jiaonan city, a satellite city of Qingdao, are converted into an ecological cultivating base. [bandao.cn] 

Tidal flats of Dachang Town, Jiaonan city, a satellite city of Qingdao, are converted into an ecological cultivating base.

Covering an area of 504 hectares, the base has more than 100 cultivating enterprises and employs 1,500 local laborers.

The area mainly engages in rearing, cultivating and scientific activities of rare aquatic products such as sea cucumber and abalone. Its output value of fishery reaches 200 million yuan (US$32.1 million).

Four projects of the base have been listed as projects under the national 863 Program, according to a worker on the base.

The ‘863 Program' is a medium-to-long-term scientific research and development plan launched by the Chinese Government in 1986.
