Qualification trials (Shandong region) for the 31st Weifang International Kite Festival kick off on March 2. More than 80 kites from nearly 20 teams participated in the trial. Winners will participate in the kite festival and the 10th World Kite Championship.

34-year-old Philip comes from Brazil. He was so attracted by a kite covered in fairies, he simply kept saying "So amazing," after trying to fly the kite himself.

He has been in China for two years and this was his first time seeing so many kites together up in the air. "I like them a lot and I want to buy some for my family and friends when I go back to Brazil," he said.

Additionally, another opera-themed kite also attracted much attention. Zhang Dunlin, maker of the kite, spent one month finishing it. "Lots of people are interested in my kite at first and then become interested in Peking Opera. So the kite can play a role in spreading culture."

According to the organizer, other regions trials are set to take off soon.
