Qingdao, a coastal city in Shandong Province, will host the first Qingdao International Art Biennale from Sept. 22 to Nov. 22.
Themed "pulse of the city," the biennale, which will see more than 300 artist-participants from more than 10 countries and regions, aims to show off the diversity of art forms from different countries to Qingdao residents.
It will focus on art, fashion and nature to integrate art into the city. Artworks from different countries will be presented during the biennale, including paintings, sculptures, photography and the integrated arts. The local culture of Qingdao will display the beauty of the coastal city to the world.
The term 'Biennale' is most commonly used within the art world to describe large-scale international contemporary visual art exhibitions that take place every two years. It is an important window for displaying local culture and absorbing and sharing foreign culture.
In China, both Beijing and Shanghai have already held successful international art biennales.
