Qingdao's new airport plan has been permitted by the State Council and the China's Central Military Commission, which marks the plan's major breakthrough. The new built-up airport will develop a 4-dimension transformation center: air, railway, road and urban railway. It will also become a key national transportation node and integrated hub.

The new airport is located in the west of Dagu River, with 39 km directly from the downtown and within 200 km from those main Peninsula cities. The whole project is intended to be completed by 2025, costing 38.175 billion RMB. This new airport is with Class 4F rating, just as the Beijing Capital Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport which can afford biggest airplanes' takeoff and landing like Airbus 380 and Boeing 787.

Airport is generally known as air transportation node, but the expansion of the airport may influence the surrounding area's economic and industrial structure. As a new economic pattern, Airport economy based on this new airport will boost Qingdao's economic development.

Furthermore, this new airport will certainly lead to the development of cities around Shandong Peninsula. It plays an important role in improving regional transportation, optimizing aviation industrial chain and enhancing Shandong Peninsula's central power. Besides, its strengthened business partnership with Japan and Korea will promote mutual economic development and encourage the Peninsula's opening up.
