National ocean engineering labs to be built in Qingdao

The construction of two national ocean engineering laboratories in Qingdao, a coastal city of east China's Shandong province, was recently approved by the National Development and Reform Commission.

The national engineering laboratory for Ocean Underwater Equipment Test and Inspection will be the first national engineering lab in the field of quality supervision. It will be co-founded by 9 institutions including Qingdao National Center for Marine Equipment Quality Supervision and Inspection Group, China Classification Society, Ocean University of China, and China University of Petroleum.

The construction of national engineering laboratory for Marine Geophysical Prospecting and Exploration Equipment will be led by the China University of Petroleum.

Qingdao will be built as a platform for research, development, testing and inspection of digitalizing simulation, drilling exploiting driven design, vibrating performance testing, and marine environmental suitability testing.
