Qingdao Jiaoyun Co, a state-owned transportation company in Qingdao, launched a volunteer service center at its Jiaozhou subsidiary on Dec. 1, as part of the program aimed at looking after empty nesters in the city.

The Jiaozhou company then organized 100 volunteers to visit geracomiums and empty nesters at their homes on the same day.

Since August, 100 such service centers had been built across Qingdao under the program that was initiated by local news outlet Qingdao Daily., bringing the total number to 308, and adding 82 communities, 14 old-age care facilities, three healthcare institutions and one enterprise to the network.

These service centers will cover the surrounding areas, arranging volunteer services for senior citizens living alone and organizing theme events.
