China's only government film awards ceremony held in Beijing

John Woo, Winner of Best Overseas-based Chinese Director, said, "This is great encouragement for me. I'm very excited and grateful. I want to thank the cast and crew for "Red Cliff". They really contributed a lot to the movie's success."

Hong Kong actor Donnie Yen won the best overseas based Chinese actor award, while Taiwan actress Shu Qi received the best overseas-based Chinese actress award.

Donnie Yen, Winner of Best Overseas-based Chinese Actor, said, "I'll continue to film excellent Chinese language movies. As film actors, we have shouldered certain responsibilities, which is to spread the national spirit and Chinese virtues to the film audiences. I'll carry forward this responsibility."

Launched in 1957, the Huabiao Awards are China's highest recognition for achievement in cinema. It was originally an annual award. Since 2005, it has been held every two years.
