Gay wins men's 100 metres at British GP

Tyson Gay finally got a chance to celebrate victory in men's 100 metres. He took advantage of Usain Bolt's absence at the British Grand Prix in Gateshead.
Tyson Gay false started in his first race since that stunning night in Germany. But he shrugged off the distraction to win in 10.15 seconds on a wet track and in the face of a two metre per second headwind on Monday. The former world champion then confirmed he would undergo surgery for a groin injury.
Reigning Olympic, and now, world champion LaShawn Merritt was the big draw in the men's 400M. The American ran in cruise control coming round the final bend before a brief challenge from home-track contender Martyn Rooney forced Merritt to move up a gear. Merritt continued his fantastic season with another victory in 45.10 seconds.
Berlin bronze medalist Carmelita Jeter held off two former Olympic and world champions from the Bahamas to win the women's 100 metres in 11.07 seconds. Switching from the track to the field, Phillips Idowu, confirmed his men's triple jump world championship with a winning leap of 17.32 metres.
Brathwaite wins 110m hurdles in Zagreb GP
In the Zagreb Grand Prix, Ryan Brathwaite of Barbados made up for the absence of Dayron Robles. He captured the 110-meter hurdles, as he did in Berlin. He finished in 13.35 seconds 6 one-hundredths of a second faster than Olympic bronze medalist David Oliver of the U.S.
