St. Basil's Cathedral is perhaps the most iconic building in Moscow, if not all of Russia. Built by Ivan The Terrible, visitors from around the world come to admire its distinctive architecture. It's a design that ultimately cost the architects their sight.

Originally called Intercession Cathedral, St. Basil's was built on the order of Russian Czar Ivan the 4th.

Construction took place between 1555 and 1561, and since then, the cathedral has been rebuilt several times.

Legend says that Ivan the 4th liked the cathedral so much, that he ordered its two architects to be blinded, so they could never repeat their masterpiece.

The exterior cathedral, with its distinctive domes and towers, projects onto the Moscow skyline as a recognizable landmark to the masses.

But inside, the atmosphere is intimate.
