The country is bracing for a travel rush during the upcoming National Day holiday. Transport and tourism departments are gearing up, to ensure a smooth journey for travellers.

Railway departments have launched their holiday transport plan, two days ahead of the Golden Week Holiday. The travel peak is expected to begin on October the 1st, when a record-high seven million trips will be made.

Wang yongping, spokesman of The Ministry of Railway, said, "Passenger flow between big cities and tourist destinations have increased compared to the previous year. Travelling during the golden week holiday is expected to increase ten percent from last year."

Another 6 million trips will be made by air during the holiday season. Airline companies have increased flights on major routes to accommodate the expected surge.

Li Jun, vice manager of Southern Airlines Beijing Branch, said, "To ensure flights are on time, we have prepared backup flights in major airports like Beijing and Guangzhou."

Many travellers are choosing to spend the holiday outside the mainland. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is expecting nearly 9 million trips across the border. Extra personnel have been dispatched at busy ports to handle the increased passenger flow. Local retailers and catering industries are eyeing the holiday season by stepping up promotions.
