Texas Hold 'em Poker is a western cultural phenomenon that's sweeping into Asia. And the gambling movie "Poker King", which was filmed on Macau is hoping to benefit from the hype. The star-studded film had its gala premiere at The Grand Theatre in Hong Kong on Sunday.
Leading actors Louis Koo and Lau Ching-wan along with Cherrie Ying and Stephy Tang attended the event.
"Poker King" is about a Texas Hold'em Poker tournament in which poker players compete for the championship.
Texas Hold'em Poker is the most popular poker game in the world. The game is very popular on the Internet where players are able to play with unknown partners.
Actor Louis Koo said, "This game is very popular in the West. Perhaps it has just started to develop in Asia. I had to learn mannerisms and skills from players outside Hong Kong."
There have been several popular Asian gambling films since the 1980s', most notably "God of Gamblers" released in 1989 starring Chow Yun-Fat and Stephen Chou's "All For The Winner" released in 1990.
