Michael Jackson fans attempted to set a new world record for having the most people simultaneously performing the "Thriller" dance on Sunday.

"Thrill the World", initiated by Jackson fan clubs in 2006, strove to break the Guinness World Record by organizing over 20-thousand people around the world to dance to "Thriller".

Thousands of fans participated in the zombie dance at the same time in Los Angeles, New York, Washington, D.C. and other cities in the US as well as in 36 other countries to pay tribute to the "King of Pop".

The current record was set by more than 13-thousand people a few months ago in Mexico City, on what would have been Jackson's 51st birthday. There's still no word on whether or not the attempt was successful.

Later this week, Jackson fans will moon-walk their way into theatres for the opening of the Jackson concert film "This Is It".
