US holds memorial service for Fort Hood shooting victims

A memorial service was held on Tuesday at Fort Hood, Texas, to pay tribute to the 13 slained in the shooting.

 

President Barack Obama, delivered a speech before a crowd of about 15-thousand at the Army post. The president and first lady Michelle Obama began an afternoon of consolations by meeting in private with family members of the victims, and with those wounded in the attack.

The shooting killed 12 soldiers and 1 civilian, injuring 29 others. Two unnamed officials, have disclosed that a Washington-based terrorism task force, had been notified of communications between Major Nidal Hasan, the only suspect of the shooting, and a radical Imam overseas.

The information was turned over to the Defense Criminal Investigative Service they concluded that Hasan did not merit further investigation.
