From the fast paced action of espionage films, we now turn to that small and mysterious world we've all left behind, a kid's world. Young parents may think they know their children - but it seems they have much to learn. A documentary film Kids Kingdom reveals the real world of kids to adults - especially to young parents.

This documentary by Professor Zhang Tongdao follows the children at a kindergarten in the suburbs of Beijing.

It focuses on three kids. There's four-year-old Chen Chen, who waits in the yard for her friend Nan De every morning. Then there's five year old Chi Yiyang, the leader of a group of boys, little Yiyang's mischief is always a headache for the teacher. And two year old Xi Kun, whose strange behavior reveals tremendous curiosity.

The documentary delves into delicate emotions, the power to influence others, and curiosity about the unknown, all in a "Kid's Kingdom".

Director Zhang Tongdao is a professor of Beijing Normal University and teaches documentary film.

Zhang aims to show the real kids world when parents are not around. He and cinematographer Liu Dedong spent two years observing and recording the kids in a kindergarten called Ba Xue Yuan. From one-hundred-and-eighty hours of footage, they selected the most intriguing parts for the the eighty-five minute documentary.

A discussion of their film was held at a forum in Beijing on Wednesday prior to it's general release on Friday.
