Volkswagen to triple south China sales by 2018

Europe's biggest auto maker Volkswagen plans to triple its sales in south China by 2018. They want to double sales to 2 million units in the country in the next decade.

Volkswagen is a major player in north and east China with more than 20 percent of the market share, yet only has 12 percent of the market in the south.

Nissan to build electric-car plant in Guangzhou

Nissan says it will weigh plans to make all-electric cars in the Chinese city of Guangzhou. The Japanese auto maker is trying to step up its electric-vehicle activity in China's fast growing car market.

A Nissan executive disclosed possible factory plans Sunday, when the company and its Chinese joint-venture partner Dongfeng Motor signed an agreement with the Guangzhou city government, setting up an electric-car program.

Geely sees 25% to 30% sales growth in 2010

Geely Automobile says it sees sales growth of 20 to 30 percent next year even without a government stimulus plan.

Vice president of Geely's parent firm Jinliang lau made the comments at the Guangzhou auto show. He adds sales growth would be higher if the government continued to offer incentives. Geely's parent company is being named by Ford as the preferred bidder for Volvo.
