China has dominated the 8th Asian Synchronized swimming championships in Guangdong. The team claimed five gold medals out of seven. That is the best record in China's history. China scored 90 points, 15 more than the second place side, to win the team event gold medal on Monday.
First, we look at the singles event. Japan's Sakai Mario put on a good performance. Her choice of operatic music matched her routine, and she scored high marks for difficulty and strength. Sakai scored 89.60 points for first place, but the total fell short of the world mark. That gives Asian competitors' room to improve.
Experts favored China in the team event. The swimmers' theme of "Carnivals" featured stretching action and elaborate moves. China scored 90 points to win the gold medal.
Chinese Macao's theme was called "Let's Talk About The Money." It dramatized people's desperate and crazed desire for wealth. The swimmers scored 75 points to settle for silver.
