The National Development and Reform Commission has declared that the Shanghai Disneyland project has been formally approved by the State Council.

The Shanghai Disneyland Theme Park is co-invested by Sino-US companies. The project will be located in Chuansha county, in Pudong district. It will occupy 116 hectares of land. The project is expected to open within five years and is estimated to cost 3.5 billion US dollars.

In 1955, American cartoon pioneer Walt Disney established the first Disney Park in California. The Californian Disney Park was also the world's first theme park. So far, there are four other Disney Theme Parks in the world. They are located in the US city of Orlando, French capital of Paris, Japan's capital Tokyo, and China's Hong Kong special autonomous region.
