In an instant, the 2008 Beijing Olympics went from dream to nightmare for Chinese dancer Liu Yan.

Liu, was scheduled to take center stage during the opening ceremonies, but an accident during rehearsal left her paralyzed from the waist down.

But now, Liu is getting a second chance to be a part of the Olympics. She has been chosen to be a torch bearer for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Born to dance! This is Liu Yan. A 27-year-old Chinese classical dancer.

She began to learn dancing as a nine-year-old. In time, Liu won the nation's top dance honor, the Lotus prize.

Considered China's leading classical dancer, she was invited to be the only solo performer at the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony.

At the spectacular opening ceremony for the Beijing Olympic games on August 8th of 2008, the dance Silk Road was performed, but the dancer was not Liu Yan.
