Heavy fog enveloped Beijing and many parts of China Thursday, causing flight delays and highway closures.

Many places of north, east and south China are shrouded in mist. The visibility in some areas is less than 200 meters.

In Hebei Province, the dense fog reduced visibility in some places to 50 meters Thursday morning. This forced the closure of at least five highways in the province. Dozens of flights in and out of Shijiazhuang City, the capital of the Province, were delayed.

Rain and fog combined in Shangdong Province reduced visibility in Binzhou City to as little as 20 meters. The highest alert was issued and highways in the city were closed.

Lingering fog has reduced visibility in parts of northeastern Liaoning province to 20 meters, closing several highways. So far the foggy weather continues in Shanxi, Henan, Shaanxi, Provinces and Beijing Municipality.
