Many regions in China have been hit by a cold front bringing strong winds and heavy snow. Temperatures in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have plummeted to minus 40 degrees Celsius.

Strong winds and a blizzard dumped up to 50 centimeters of snow in northern and central Xinjiang on Tuesday.
Altay was the worst-hit area. More than 20,000 people were affected, and more than 1,300 head of livestock died.
The local government has deployed disaster relief teams to help suffering residents. It has also dipped into grain reserves to ease the livestock feed shortage.
The cold hit Beijing Thursday night, with winds of 40 kilometers per hour. The civil affairs departments helped homeless people find shelter at relief stations, or provided them with food and clothing.
The northern cities have adopted counter measures to limit the cold snap's impact on traffic and other aspects of daily life.
In Dalian, the water pipes in residential buildings have been treated with anti-freeze.
Song Yuanjun, customer service of Dalian Water Supply Grouup, said, "The heat preserving layer outside the pipes can withstand a temperature of minus 20 degrees Celsius."
Several southern provinces are also struggling with fog, rain and plummeting temperatures.
The thickest fog of the winter hit Sichuan on Friday.
Six expressways have been closed. The Shuangliu International Airport in Chengdu was closed again after Thursday's nine-hour closure. 120 flights were delayed.
