China is one of the world's largest producers of bamboo, and the country boasts a long history of turning it into musical instruments.

In a new year concert in Beijing, musicians created exquisite sounds, using an assortment of bamboo instruments.

The concert brought together more than 30-instruments all made of bamboo.

There were traditional Chinese pieces, like the flute and two-stringed zither.

But some of the instruments were unfamiliar to the audience a one-string zither, and another made of bamboo charcoal, plus a bass drum made from bamboo unique to southwest China's Yunnan Province. It's trunk is the thickest in the world.

Together, they performed world famous classics.

New instruments were introduced later in the concert the steamer, the bamboo bowls and even the basket, which used to be necessary Chinese appliances. They produced a fresh and exciting sound.

As well as providing a feast of music, the concert also promoted green living and environmental protection.
