The Shanxi Provincial government has briefed the public on the investigation into a vaccine scandal. Media reports say nearly 100 children fell ill or died in Shanxi after taking shots of the vaccine.

The probe found the former director of the provincial Center for Disease Control, Li Wenyuan, violated rules while cooperating with the vaccine producer, Beijing Huawei Company.

Li has been removed from his post and is being investigated.

The local government is to convince the public about the safety of the current vaccine

Ju Xianhua, Official of Shanxi Provincial Government, said, "I can tell you categorically that supervision of the vaccine in our province is now strict and reliable, people can let their children have the vaccine, rest assured."

Ju says the government will investigate all vaccine cases reported by the public and release the results as soon as possible.

On March 17th, the Beijing based China Economic Times named 15 children out of 78 who received vaccines at different times in the province and says 4 children died between 2007 and 2008, and 74 became ill.

The report says Shanxi Province had been selling problematic vaccines since 2006.

The report also accused the provincial Center for Disease Control of exposing vaccines to heat in the summer causing quality problems.
