The Best Urban Practice Zone is one of the most innovative initiatives at the Expo. It will showcase 50 urban designs from across the globe. They will fall into four categories of home and garden, sustainable urbanization, heritage preservation, and scientific innovational. Today, let's take a look at the Bamboo Housing from Spain's capital Madrid.

The Bamboo Housing is a rent-control project founded and operated by the municipal government of Madrid. Currently, it is home to 88 families. At the Shanghai World Expo, a typical Bamboo Housing home has been readied for display. It will also serve as a display zone to showcase the latest achievements in urban building in Madrid.

According to the construction master of Madrid Hall, bamboo has proved to be a very effective material in eco-friendly building projects. While providing comfortable shade from the harsh sunshine, bamboo also supplies great economy compared with traditional wood.

In front of the Bamboo House is a structure shaped like a tree. It has a hollow inside and a metal covering. On top of it are four fans. This is another feature of the Madrid Hall, known as the "Ecological Air Conditioner". It can adjust the temperature and moisture of the surrounding area. The inside can serve as a public space for people to stroll and mingle.
