It's been three months since giant panda "Meilan" returned to Sichuan China from Atlanta in the United States. This summer will be the first Meilan will experience since coming back. Let's catch up with our friend Meilan in southwestern China... and see how life's been treating her.

Sound asleep, home sweet home. Meilan takes a nap after having her breakfast.

The panda protection and breeding center located in the suburbs of Chengdu has offered a unique environment for Meilan to live. There's large areas of trees, ponds and bamboo. The temperature is 5 to 8 degrees celsius lower than the urban areas.

In order to help Meilan adapt to the hot summer, she's being offered more nutritious food, such as fresh bamboo shoots. Usually, this kind of food is only provided to baby and pregnant pandas. But luckily, Meilan also enjoys this privilege.

Wu Kongju, Senior Breeder, Panda Protection & Breeding Center, said, " Meilan is a female panda, and is also a graceful girl. She seems like a real lady when she is eating."

Meilan has been named as the icon of the "Earth One Hour" campaign organized by the World Wildlife Fund. In it, she calls for low carbon life to protect the global environment.

Meilan's keepers at the center hope to get an English blog up and running for her overseas fans to read.
