People in Southern China continue to be battered by heavy rain storms. Cities and rural areas have suffered severe flooding, with many roads being blocked in Hunan, Guangdong, Jiangxi provinces and Chongqing municipality. Local authorities are now working to implement disaster relief measures.

In Gannan, Jiangxi Province, rain storms have killed 12 people. More than a quarter of a million people have also been affected.

Many homes in Shaunglian Village have been inundated by floods.

Zeng Fanwei, local official of Gannan Jiangxi said, "Heavy rain has lasted for more than 2 hours. When we arrived, this place was all flooded. "

The rainfall has also caused mudslides, breaking off access to major roads.

The downpours also continued in most parts of Guangdong Province. Local governments and residents remain on high alert.

25 flights were delayed Monday morning in Guangzhou, the Capital of Guangdong province. Most of the fights were heading for eastern and northern parts of the country, before being delayed for at least one hour.

All flights resumed in the afternoon. The airport is warning passengers to double check their flight schedules, since more rain is expected over the next several days.

Hunan province was hit by heavy rainstorms last Thursday, bringing floods, landslides and cutting off power and communications in many areas.

Local officials have made disaster relief a priority. This is already the third batch of relief materials heading to Xinhua County.

Electric technicians worked around the clock to repair damaged power lines, and have restored electricity in all Xinhua County.

Meteorologists will issue more rainstorm alerts for Southern China in the next two days, as forecasts predict a new round of heavy rain on Wednesday. But floods, mudslides and landslides still continue to threaten many areas in Southern China.
