China Telecom will offer blackberry mobile phones to its customers, in order to remain competitive in the 3G market. Rivalry is heating up between China's 3 main carriers as they vie for the biggest chunk of the market.

A bold move that China Telecom had to make introducing 3G cell phones to its customers. It'll offer two phones both featuring Blackberry's exclusive push-mail application. The phones also allow business people to access their workplace internet networks. China Telecom says it's targeting politicians and businessmen. The handset price and service fee will depend on the customers' needs.

Ma Daojie, the general manager of China Telecom, said, "Every client has a different need. We will tailor the price and fee according to that."

Telco's are desperate to cash-in on new areas like video and office access on cell phones, now that call costs are decreasing. Smartphones and their applications are what operators are turning to, in order to compete in the 3G arena.

China Mobile, the country's largest telco, has introduced its self-developed O-Phone to compete with China Unicom's iPhone offer.
