Unrelenting rainstorms are still affecting many areas in southern China. The State Headquarters for Flood and Drought Control and prevention says 16 provinces have suffered severely, since April 1st.

102 people have died of weather-related disasters and 21 are still missing. Over 13 million have been affected.

The extreme weather has brought down 74 thousand homes and caused direct economic losses worth 10 billion yuan, or 1.4 billion US dollars.

The headquarters, says this year's flooding is more than previous years, but the death toll has fallen by half.

Most deaths occur in mountainous areas in Hunan, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Chongqing. So far, water levels of the main rivers remain stable.
