What was your favorite day of the year as a kid? Perhaps your birthday? New Years? Or maybe, Children's Day. On that day, Mom and Dad just might grant your every wish. Well, this year, it was my wish to check out the hottest show in town...Monkey King's Adventure in the East Sea.

Yin Chen, Culture Express, said, "You're watching Culture Express....That's me."

And he comes to life! Everyone in China is familiar with the Monkey King, but today we certainly meet the most stylish one.

Yang Rui, Actress, "Monkey King", said, "This is a breakthrough to the traditional Monkey King image. We made some innovations based on the original role in the novel for a more modern and fresh character. We hope that people will like the new Monkey King."

Another highlight is that the character's role is taken on by 2 people; a 23 year old woman, Yang Rui, and a 40-year old veteran actor, Ma Xiwu, who does most of the stunts.

But no matter how many actors there are, no matter what their costumes look like, one thing remains unchanged: the spirit of the monkey king, his bravery, uprighteousness, and quick wittedness, all that have remained for over 4 centuries.

Audience Member, said, "The Monkey King has many abilities."

"He's so brave."

"He can defeat monsters."

Audience Member, said, "The performance is a modern one. Of course, it's different from what I watched when I was a kid. Today's children prefer this version. "

"This performance is different from the original novel, which contains more history, while this one is more appealing for children, who like the new technology. There could have been more dialogue in the play, and less dancing.I think it would then be easier for children to follow the story."
