During his meeting with US President Barack Obama, President Hu Jintao noted the progress made recently in ties between China and the US, including the success of the second round of the China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue.

Because of shared challenges in the global economy, and global and regional issues, Hu Jintao says it's necessary for the two countries to work together.

Hu Jintao is calling on the US to refrain from trade protectionism and gradually reduce barriers to high-tech exports to China.

Obama says America is happy to see a successful and prosperous China, and wants to ensure implementation of the agreements from the Strategic and Economic Dialogue.
