Chinese President Hu Jintao has left Toronto, en route back to Beijing, after attending the G20 Summit. Earlier on Sunday, he met with new Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan on the sidelines of the international gathering. President Hu Jintao put forward five proposals to further advance bilateral ties.

First, the two countries should increase high-level communication. Second, the two nations should expand trade and deepen economic cooperation. Third, the two countries should strengthen coordination and cooperation on regional and international affairs, and expand common interests. Fourth, the two nations should expand cultural and people-to-people exchanges. And finally, the two countries should properly handle sensitive issues.

In turn, Kan said the Japanese government is ready to work with China to push forward regional cooperation in East Asia, and properly handle the problems arising in the development of the bilateral links. The two sides also exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
