Torrential rains have triggered a massive landslide in Huitong County, Hunan Province. Hundreds of cars were unable to move for hours.

Around six Saturday afternoon, the mountain suddenly collapsed onto a section along the 209 National Highway near Huitong County. Nearly ten thousand cubic meters of earth and stone piled up covering nearly 50 meters of the route. The road was completely cut off.

He Siqing, Director, Highway Bureau of Huitong County, said, "The earth was completely soaked due to days of torrential rain. So the earth become loose."

The local government was prompt to initiate repair work. Because the earth is still loose, there is a risk of more landslides. So a makeshift road was opened to relieve traffic.
