Floods and landslides triggered by torrential rains in southern parts of northwest China's Shaanxi Province have left at least 46 people dead and 121 others missing.

Heavy rains over the last week have ravaged 22 counties and the cities of Ankang, Shangluo and Hanzhong. Precipitation reached 330 millimeters in the worst-hit area, topping a former record set in 1953. Around 1.66 million people in the three cities are affected. Direct economic losses are estimated at 366 million U.S. dollars.

In Ankang alone, two major landslides happened Sunday night, leaving 25 dead and 24 others missing. A working team from the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has been sent to the affected area.
