Chanthu, the third typhoon of the season, has made landfall in a coastal area of Wuchuan City, south China's Guangdong Province.

No casualties have been reported so far from Chanthu, which was upgraded from a tropical storm. The typhoon is now lashing Guangdong province with torrential rains. Local authorities are urging residents to stay indoors as winds reach up to 115 kilometers per hour.

Nine cities and counties in eastern and northern parts of the island province of Hainan have already been affected. China's Meteorological Bureau says the storm is expected to travel farther inland toward the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
