Greenpeace activists say they have closed down more than 50 BP service stations in London, in a protest timed to coincide with the company's earnings update.

The environmental action group is calling on BP to focus on greener and renewable sources of energy.

John Sauven, Executive Director of Greenpeace UK, said, "They are going to change the boss, we want them to change the strategy. We want them to move beyond petroleum, to get out of the risky developments in the deep water Gulf, in the tar sands of Canada, in the Arctic, develop cleaner fuels, renewable energy. They need to change their investment strategy."
