Workplace exercise resumes in Beijing

The practice of workplace exercise has resumed. For almost every Chinese person, it's an integral part of the work day. A chance to stop work for 10 minutes and do some exercises to try and stay fit and beat fatigue.

At 10am, the radio presenter at Beijing sports station starts her work day with some workplace exercise.

You're listening to Beijing Sports Radio.

We invite you to join us

every work day at 10 am and 3 pm

for the work-break exercise.

Now the music starts.

At Xidan's department store, the staff are working out to the music.

A sales assistant in Xidan Department Store said, "We have to stand a lot, so the exercise is really good for us to stretch our bodies."

Another sales assistant said, "It puts you in a good mood and prepares you for a day's work."

At China Mobile in Beijing, the workers' Union has had a special kind of exercise designed for employees.

A trainer said, "The workforce here is primarily made up of young people. They sit at the desks for long hours everyday. Our exercise will help them deal with fatigue."

As a compulsory form of physical exercise, the workplace workout is considered a benefit that companies should provide. Apart from simple gymnastic moves, experts say business owners should come up with more alternatives for staff to choose from.
