The thematic show "Window of the City" in Expo Shanghai has been preformed over 190 times in three months, attracting more than 26 thousands viewers. Director Alex Olle shared with us his opinions.

On this 360 degree stage stands a huge LED screen. This screen is the main actor in the whole show. The entire screen which is 20 meters wide and 10 meters tall is equally divided into 7 columns and 4 rows so that it seems to be a Rubik's cube piled up with 28 cubes. Except the eight screens on both sides, the other 20 cubes can rotate, extend, contract and move in accordance with the performance.

As the cubes move during the show...viewers on one side of the stage can see audience members on the other side of the theatre. Some spectators might think they are looking into a mirror at first; however, due to its rotation the stage is divided into two sides on which the same performance is on at the same time.

Angel is the lead character in the show, however, letting a group of white angles fly freely in the sky involved a lot of wire stunts.

It is not rare to see the actors flying with the help of wires in films and TV series; however, it is quite rare to see 36 people dancing together 10 meters above the stage.

The wires' net has to be designed according to the inner structure of the pavilion and to the visual space in case the tracks will intervene with each other. The engineers even have to write the codes of the wires for every performer to make sure the speed of the wires is in good coordination with the video. Although it is a big job, the scene watched from the auditorium is like the view from outer space or an angel's view.

Better City, Better Life, Window of the City not only uses its story to express the theme of this Expo, it also creates a future for theatre performances.
