Speaking at a plenary General Assembly session on aid to Pakistan, China's permanent representative to the United Nations Li Baodong said China will provide more assistance to the flood-stricken country.

Li said the latest developments suggest the flooding in Pakistan may pose an unprecedented humanitarian challenge. He said the first batch of China's aid materials has arrived in the affected areas.

It includes 30 tons of food, 1,200 tents, 1,000 power generators, nearly 24,000 blankets as well as medicine, mineral water and water purification equipment.

Li also said China is providing an additional 50 million yuan worth of humanitarian aid and the Chinese government will continue to do what it can to provide assistance in the light of developments in the disaster areas.
