Hu Jintao is stressing the development of nuclear power is a key measure for China to optimize its energy structure and reduce emissions.

Chinese President Hu Jintao said, "The nuclear power industry began late in China. But now the momentum of its development is good. I hope you can take the opportunity. We should depend on science and technological innovation and speed up construction. We should give safety the number one priority. By doing so, we could try our best to make a better contribution to the development of our society and economy."

The President also visited a residential community in downtown Shenzhen.
