The first New York Chinese Film Festival opened over the weekend at the Lincoln Center.

Nine selected Chinese films will be screened for movie lovers in the big apple. Now let's take a closer look at some highlights from the opening ceremony.

A galaxy of Chinese film stars walked the red carpet, showing their support for the event. Some of them have also brought their best work.

Jiang Wenli, director of "LAN", said, "Very glad to be here. Last time when I was here is ten years ago. I like the city. It's great to screen my debut director film "Lan" here."

Alec Su, singer and actor, said, "China's film market is running very well. The variety of the films is rich. I hope there will be more events like this one, to help more people around the world learn what's going on with Chinese films."

The festival was opened by the film "Deep in the Clouds", a story about Chinese minority people's lives. The film gained three awards at the 13th Shanghai Film Festival.

The first New York Chinese film festival is jointly held by the Chinese American Arts Council and the movie channel of China Central Television.

Organizers behind the event believe that movies can form a bridge to connect people's minds.
