Xu Xiaobing and his wife Hou Bo were the official photographers of Chairman Mao Zedong. Now, lending his name and professional philosophy, a photo exhibition featuring Xu Xiaobing's work is on display at his hometown Tongxiang in Zhejiang Province, east China.

Artists from all around China submitted over 70-thousand photos to become part of the exhibition. The standard for selection was simple, just as the renowned photographer Xu Xiaobing pursued throughout his career: focus on the truth and explore the art.

Wu Zhengzhong, Photographer, Qingdao Finance Daily, said, "Since I took my first picture, Qingdao has always been under the lens of my camera. I've caught the changes of the city through years. The winning piece is one from my first batch of pictures taken in 1993 while the other is in 2008. In total, I've taken nearly 100 thousand pictures featuring Qingdao."

Xu Xiaobing was born in 1916 and started his career in 1937. From China's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression to the founding of new China, Xu recorded history through his lens. Xu died in 2009 at the age of 93, but through exhibitions like this one in Tongxiang, his legacy can live on with the younger generation.
