Top DPRK military officer dies

Senior military officer from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Jo Myong Rok, has died of heart disease aged 82.

Jo was a member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Workers' Party Central Committee. He served as the first vice chairman of the National Defense Commission. The Korean Central News Agency described his death in an obituary as "a great loss" to the DPRK and its people.

A funeral committee of more than 170 members including top DPRK leader Kim Jong Il and his son, Kim Jong Un has been formed. A state funeral will be held for the senior military leader.
