On Wednesday, the city's water supplies to hundreds of thousands of people were paralyzed after a major water pipe burst. Now authorities are planning an overhaul of the city's aging water pipes.

A major blowout in a section of pipe left 800,000 residents without water.

One Zhengzhou resident says although the water supply have resumed, it's not the first time they've experienced the problem. They happen nearly every winter.

Mr. Wang,Zhengzhou Resident, said, "There are certainly many inconveniences. We have to fetch water from the emergency water tank to cook and wash. "

In the past 7 years, there have been 10 such incidents. When they occur, residents are forced to carry water home for their daily use.

Guan Xin, Zhengzhou, Henan Province, said, "This is where the accident happened. The underground pipeline was damaged by the continous pressure from the vehicles on the street above. The water line ruptured and paralyzed the city's water supply system."
