We begin on the Korean peninsula, where bad weather has forced cancellation of a landing exercise on Mallipo beach in the joint military drills between the US and South Korea.

In some cases, journalists were prevented from filming, and the full details behind the cancellation were unclear. The joint military drills between South Korea and the United States have entered their second day in the Yellow Sea.

A US supercarrier and South Korean destroyer are participating in exercises. They come in the wake of last week's DPRK artillery attack that killed four South Koreans, including two marines.

The US insists the drills were planned before last Tuesday's attack. No live-fire drills are planned during the four-day exercises.

South Korean President, Lee Myung-Bak, spoke at a press conference earlier this morning. He took responsibility for failing to protect South Koreans from the attack, and vowed that the DPRK would face consequences if it showed future aggression.

Lee Myung-Bak, South Korean President, said, "We realize that it's difficult to expect the DPRK to give up its attempts to create a nuclear weapon. South Korea realizes that we cannot appear to show endurance and tolerance because Pyongyang will only become more provocative. Only through showing courage that never recedes despite danger and provocation, will lasting peace come."
