China is home to the world's largest disabled population with 83 million people, or about 7 percent of the county's total population. According to the latest report from the China Disabled Persons' Federation, great achievements have been made to safeguard the rights of disabled people in China. But as Zhang Nini finds out, there's still a great deal more that needs to be done in order to realize their full equality and participation in society.

48-year old Wang Limei has been paralyzed from the waist down since she was two. Her paralysis came from a badly-treated bout of polio. She has been reliant on crutches or a wheelchair ever since.

Wang is among the 30 disabled persons working at west Beijing's Disabled Persons' Service Center. Her job consists of making ornaments or clothes. A job that requires her to be seated. She is pleased with her occupation and what the community has done with her apartment.

Wang Limei said, "The community staffers revamped my toilet, the stairway to make it accessible for a wheelchair. They provided me with assistant tools, like the artificial legs I am wearing, and equipped me with a motorcycle, which saves me the trouble of using public transportation."
