Negotiators at the UN climate talks in Cancun, Mexico are struggling to break the deadlock between rich and poorer nations, on steps to fight global warming.

They face huge hurdles in trying to find a successor to the Kyoto Protocol, which sets targets for curbing emissions from rich nations by 2012.
