Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, has met with visiting Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo in Pyongyang. After candid and in-depth talks, the two sides reached consensus on bilateral relations and the situation on the Korean Peninsula. Dai also met with the DPRK's Deputy Prime Minister.

The visit comes as tensions remain high on the Korean Peninsula after the DPRK and South Korea exchanged artillery fire last month. Dai also visited South Korea on November 27th after the conflict between Seoul and Pyongyang, and held talks with South Korean President Lee Myong-bak and Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan.

During that visit he discussed Sino-South Korean ties and the situation on the Peninsula. Dai says China has consistently committed itself to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, as well as promoting dialogue.
