Asian Cup: Qatar blanks China 2-0, China falls to 1-1

Asian Cup and Team China, take on the hosts from Qatar in the second group A match for both nations. Qatar lost their opening match to Uzbekistan two-nil, and were desperate for a win over China - who were two-nil winners over Kuwait in their first match.

The host nation certainly started strongly and dominated the opening exchanges, as China struggled to gain any possession.

China created their first decent chance midway through the half. Yang Hao sent an accurate corner kick into the box and Zhao Peng did well to make contact, but his header rebounded just wide of the goal.

27th minute into the match.

Yusef Ahmed smashed an unstoppable volley into the roof of goalkeeper Zeng Cheng's net from the edge of the penalty area, to send the crowd into raptures as Qatar took a one-nil lead.

Dying seconds of the first half.

Ahmed on target again. He slotted a low shot into the back of the net.

Qatar take a 2-0 lead.

Leading by 2-0, Qatar struggled to replicate their first half performance as the second half got underway. Yang Xu had the best chance for China, but sent his shot wide of the left post.

The score remained 2-nil at the final whistle. The win, moves Qatar level with China on three points in Group A.

Gao Hongbo, China Head Coach, said, "All our team staff, including our players have been very devoted to this tournament. Although we lost the game, I consider it as part of our experience in our lives. The next game is more important and I hope my players can quickly recover from the loss of this game and adjust themselves well for the preparation of the next game."

Bruno Metsu, Qatar Head Coach, said, "I am very very happy about our fans and I hope they can come back and support us same in the last game. Their support is very important and it was fantastic to see so many fans supporting our team. For us, it is beautiful and also give more energy to our players, it overcome the bad pressure immediately after it started. People push the team.
