Menswear shows took place in Milan over the weekend with big brands unveiling their 2011 winter collections. Oversized and sculptural shapes dominate Burberry. Vivienne Westwood still prefers low crotch trousers, and Armani is staying with city grays and blacks. Let's have a look.
Dandy comes easy to Britain, where the style was born, so it was no surprise that Burberry's Christopher Bailey did such a good job of it.
Fur was the motif that ran throughout the collection from the foppish caps and collars on double-breasted tweed coats to the all-fur trademark redingote.
Colors were also bright at Burberry, lending cheery winter spirit to the whole collection.
For Dame Vivienne Westwood, the trousers came pleated, drop crotch low, high on the waist, in many colors, some harking back to the 1930s.
This time around, rather than a post punk inspired collection, the designer offers choices from sporty to dandy, something for everyone.
Unlike his colleagues who promise a colorful winter next year, Armani sticks to city grays and blacks lightened up by camel in his latest collection, the most minimalist in many a season.
Extra-long coats, as soft and smooth as a robe, were the leitmotif of the show. The accent next season is on the collar, which is asymmetric and standup, with an extra flap to protect against the cold.
During the next four days, 87 labels including such leading names in Italian menswear as Armani, Bottega Veneta, Gucci, Prada and Versace will present their winter wears.
